PENGUIN ISLAND

Penguin Island is an important breeding ground for the largest colony of little or fairy penguins on the west coast of Australia. The Penguin Experience Island Discovery Centre opens at 10:00am and allows visitors to learn about these unique creatures through commentaries and displays as they dive about in their pool.
There are walk trails and lookouts on the island.
Nearby Seal Island is home to a colony of Australian sea lions, one of the world's rarest species.

This excursion is usually for a duration of 2 - 3 hours.

The two island cruise is a 45 minute cruise and commentary via Seal Island to view the sea lions and landing on Penguin Island to see the Penguin Experience Discovery Centre.

At the present time activities available to students are the
  • The Commentated Penguin Feeding sessions
  • The Penguin Island Waddle (a guided walk around the Island with groups of 20 students @ a time)
  • as well as the PASIC Shoalwater Islands Marine Park tours (prices TBA)
PLEASE NOTE: PENGUIN ISLAND IS CLOSED FROM EARLY JUNE UNTIL MID SEPTEMBER.
Penguin Island prefers teachers to book themselves through the website.

Marapana Wildlife World is approximately 20 kms from the camp school. Feed the deer, pat kangaroos and view the koalas. Marapana also has a water playground and picnic grounds.

Video, rehabilitation and mine site tour. This activity is suitable for both primary and secondary school students. There is no cost associated with the tours and to assist groups with the costs involved in bush hire a subsidy of $5.00 per student is available for students in Years 7, 11 and 12. Schools with their own buses are ineligible to receive this subsidy. Alcoa Pinjarra is situated approximately 30kms from Point Peron Camp School.

Over 540,000 people have gained an insight into Alcoa's West Australian operations through tours and school visits - what makes them so popular? The free tours give an educational, fun and exciting inside view into "Alcoa at work".

Free tours are available for school groups, special interest groups and clubs. Experienced Education Officers can link curriculum objectives, environmental and community interests and will tailor the tour content to suit individual groups.

For groups who qualify subsidies are available to assist with the cost of bus hire.

CBH is approximately 15kms from the camp school.
Cooperative Bulk Handling have a choice of two tours, both with a maximum of 35 students.
  1. 90 minute tour of the museum and the old control room. There is also a video presentation.
  2. 150 minute tour as above but also including the wharf and rail loading areas.
Cost : There is no cost for this tour.

FREMANTLE MARITIME MUSEUM

Explore the riches of Western Australia's maritime history at three unique Fremantle sites : the spectacular new Maritime Museum and submarine Ovens on Victoria Quay and the Shipwreck Galleries in Cliff Street (old Maritime Museum).

Maritime Museum - Victoria Quay - The main focus of the new Maritime Museum is to help students gain an understanding of the rich maritime heritage of WA. There are six galleries : Indian Ocean, Fishing, Fremantle & Swan River, Tin Canoe to Australia II, Defence and Cargoes.

Submarine Ovens - Explore inside a real submarine on Fremantle's historic WWII slipway. This tour is available only for Year 5 and up. Tue/Wed/Thurs - mornings only with a maximum of 30 students. This is a 90 minute activity.

Shipwreck Galleries, Cliff Street. Features displays on early exploration and shipwrecks along our coastline from the 17th century. A highlight is the reconstructed stern of the Dutch ship Batavia.

Acquire an understanding of the changing rituals and practices that have governed the prison through the 19th and 20th centuries. An excellent tour, highly recommended.

Candlelight Tours - Wednesday and Friday only at 7:30pm. For groups of 30+ it may be possible to arrange an alternative night.

Designed to complement a visit to the Fremantle Prison. Provides an opportunity for legal awareness. Participate in a scripted mock trial. There is a maximum number of participants for this activity of 36 students. Always well received by visiting groups.
