Map of the Camp School

Activities

There are a large range of activities available to do at the Point Peron Camp School. These involve off site excursions, incursions that will come to the site, and programs offered by the camp school.

Programs Offered by the Camp School

There are many programs offered by the camp school. All programs offered meet Department of Education and Training Policy requirements and all staff working at the camp school are DET employees and have police clearances.
For all activities below, the camp school meets the requirements of DET's Outdoor Education and Recreation Activities.

Orienteering

For smaller children we teach mapping skills culminating in a treasure hunt around the camp school.
For older students we can do a mapping exercise with orienteering punches up to teaching full orienteering where students learn how to use a compass and a map and can be taught orienteering games around the camp school grounds.

Snorkelling

All snorkelling equipment is supplied, however, it is recommended if students have their own equipment they bring it. Wetsuits are not provided.
This is recommended for year 5 and above.
Allow approximately 1 - 1/2 hours per session. (Dependent on cold tolerance of children)
This is a summer only activity, and is done in two locations depending on the sea breeze.

Raft Building

This is a fun activity for students of year 5 and above where students are taught knots and lashings and encouraged to come to a group consensus on the design. Students build a raft and then test it. The older the group the more complex the material used and the design. Allow 2 hours for this activity.

Canoeing / Flat Water Paddling

Using either wave skis or sea kayaks, this activity teaches children the basics of paddling on flat water, operating in a marine environment and teamwork.

Archery - (year 5 and up).

This activity is offered to students year 5 and up. Students are taught the basics of archery in a very safe and controlled environment.

Team Building

These activities are great for building cooperation amongst your class. All age groups are catered for. The aim of all activities is to beat the problem and the clock as a group. Being part of the group is the most important quality emphasized.

These activities give natural leaders a chance to excel, but they also make everyone get involved and are structured to challenge all students to lead.

There is no room to be an individual in some of these activities as this is quite detrimental to the group's performance. Kids are always amazed at what they can do given the opportunity and the teamwork.

Climbing

This activity is for lower primary school students to learn the basics of rock climbing inside a climbing room. The climbing wall is very low and safe, and the students are able to work on their coordination and strength development.

Beach Breakfast and Point Peron Quiz - (subject to weather)

A great way to start the day! BBQ breakfast on the Rockingham foreshore where the students can swim or play on the adventure equipment. The students then walk back along the beach to the Camp School. Along the way they can complete a fun activity identifying landmarks and answering a series of questions.
Approximately 8:00am - 11:00am, longer if children are swimming at Rockingham.

Environmental Activities - Upper Primary

We have an activity file on each of the five topics below. Each file contains background information, lesson outline and activity sheets.
Topics
  • What's that Shell.
  • Birds on the Beach
  • Beach Litter Survey
  • What am I
  • Conservation Code.
The activity files are designed for teachers to be able to pick them up, do some background reading, and teach the topic following the lesson plan.
